I’ve consistently noticed one thing while coaching candidates towards major software engineering roles*: negotiation is nearly always a pain point. It’s a nerve-wracking—but, I would argue, completely necessary—part of the process, one which especially disproportionately affects women. While there are already “negotiation consultants” out there, these consultants usually charge four figure fees on top of a percentage of whatever they negotiate for you. I can’t imagine what they could possibly be doing for you to be worth that much, short of picking up the phone and dialing in personal connections to increase the offer.
